  Behavioral Guidelines    
 

Participating in a OASIS ARTS production is an extra activity beyond OASIS ARTS classes.  To put on a production, we need all parents to help by being involved on a Parent committee.  Below are descriptions and approximate time commitments to help you make your decision.  Listed first is the time frame the work is done on each committee.

Backstage
: Dress rehearsal week and productions.  Assist VC in recruiting crew members and oversee moving sets on and off the stage during dress rehearsals and productions.  Maintain backstage quiet during show.  Look good in basic black.  Meet with director prior to dress week.  (can usually see one show).

Clean Up
: Dress rehearsal week and productions.  Organize and implement clean up of theater/show facility after dress rehearsals & shows.  Ensure cleanup in between shows as well.  Work with VC as to specific areas of need.

Costumes
: 1st rehearsal through Dress rehearsal week and productions.  Assist in costuming the show by sewing, thrift store shopping and altering clothes.  Time commitment: Before the show: sewing & gathering costumes.  During the show: repairs & dressing room assistance. After the show: collecting costumes & laundering.  Basic sewing skills a plus!

OASIS ARTS Meetings:
2-3 weeks prior to productions.  Coming to the OASIS ARTS meetings in preparing for all productions.  Duties vary from copying to filing tickets.  Check in with OASIS ARTS Office Operations Supervisor for scheduling.

Green Room
: Dress rehearsal week and productions.  Supervise cast while offstage.  Make clean-up charts and circulate supervision sheet to make sure each rehearsal and show is covered.  Need to be a good disciplinarian - maintain quiet and order between scenes.  Create simple activities for actors in the Green Room.  This committee utilizes volunteers from other committees as well to fill in time slots.

House Manager
: Production week.  Must arrive at designated theatre locations 1 hour before each show. Enjoy dealing with people, organize ushers, set-up / manage will-call & ticket sales, maintain theater atmosphere during performance.  Before show - contact OASIS ARTS volunteers to co-ordinate ticket pickup.  Committee members present during each show, including school day shows.

Makeup / Hair
: Dress rehearsal week and productions.  Work with Director for makeup needs.  Lead makeup class for the parents. Supervise dress rehearsals and shows to help with makeup and hair. Can divide up time among committee members.

Marketing / PR
: All weeks prior to production.  Assist with program ad sales.  Sell school day shows and large groups for public shows.  Distribute fliers & posters to schools, businesses etc.  Supervise the publicity table at shows.  Duties can be divided among committee members.  Access to fax helpful.  Generate media contacts and interest from newspaper, radio & TV.  Research and execute marketing opportunities for show.

Photographer
: 1st weeks of rehearsals, then dress week.  Coordinate sales forms with AC for parents to purchase: head shots, group pictures, and action shots.  Organize and take program photos.  Create picture board for lobby in the theater of the show.  May make photo CD of photo board pictures.

Production VC Assistant
: 1st rehearsal through Dress rehearsal week and productions.  Assist area coordinator with general show-related tasks.

Program
: All weeks prior to production, heavy first few weeks.  Generate new ad sales, coordinate ad sales w/office.  Submit money, contracts and artwork to office.  Type and edit congrat ads, bio's, obtain photos from photographer and type names for pictures, then prepare and submit information (as advised by VC) to graphic designer.  Make special programs for cast.  Follow-up mailing to all advertisers with a thank you letter and sample of program.

Props: 1st rehearsal through dress rehearsal week and productions.  Collect props from the OASIS ARTS office/warehouse and create all remaining props.  Enjoy frequenting garage sales and thrift stores searching for treasures.  Supervise prop table during dress rehearsals and shows. Before dress rehearsal week - gathering / building props (may require travel to OASIS ARTS warehouse in Cary, IL); Dress Rehearsal week and during shows - check to make sure props are present and in order; After show - return props to OASIS ARTS office or appropriate owners.  With director's wishes, may have ready for final run-through rehearsal.

Refreshments:Dress rehearsal week (purchasing) and productions.  Make purchases for snack & soft drink sales, and sell them before shows, during show intermissions & after shows.  Oversee all sales with the goal of raising funds to help subsidize the production.  Must work every show except the 1 show you are attending.  Secure popcorn machine if stored at OASIS ARTS warehouse.

School Day Rep. (Docent): 2 weeks prior to productions.  Work with OASIS ARTS main office to coordinate visits to groups attending school day performances.  Call schools to set up visit, go to schools to present overview of show and act as ambassador to school.  Recruit cast members to help and advise on theater etiquette.  Daytime availability needed for follow-up calls to schools for "Docent" visits.  Access to fax machine and computer spreadsheet program helpful.

Sets / Transportation: All available weekends prior to production, and move-in and closing show days.  Carpentry and / or artistic abilities needed.  Build and create sets before run of show; help set up during dress rehearsal week; move sets in and out of theater & return to OASIS ARTS office / storage.

Souvenirs: Weeks prior to productions and all performances.  Plan and supervise Benefit Drawing, collect donations for each basket.  Purchase, create & sell show-specific souvenirs, cast flowers & balloons at each show.  Production bears will be designed & created under this committee; fun for crafters, and basic sewing is helpful.  Additional activities as selected.  Working before shows to create & implement this fundraiser.  Must work every show except the 1 show you are attending.

Strike Party: Planning prior to production for this event a few days after production closes.  Organize a time of celebration for the cast members and their families for after the production.  Includes locating a facility, planning, catering and decoration.  Create cast awards, parent chairperson & directing team thank you gifts.

Technical: Move-in, dress rehearsal week and productions.  Work with Director for needs.  Help set up & monitor sound / lights for shows.  Basic wiring skills, microphone knowledge or spotlight skills are helpful.  (can usually see one show)
